June 11 2019 The Trinidad Triggers defeated the Santa Fe Fuego 8-7 after scoring three runs in the eighth inning and holding off a two-run Santa Fe rally in the ninth. Trinidad finished with 11 hits while Santa Fe collected nine; both teams committed three errors.
Scott Stetson went 2-for-4 with two RBI and two runs for Trinidad, while Matt Eureste and Nick Stoll each had two hits and an RBI. Zack Felix reached base four times with a hit and three walks and drove in a run. Santa Fe’s Sherman Graves delivered three hits and three RBI, and Marten Pauwels went 2-for-5 with a home run, a double and an RBI. Troy Maslowski added two RBI.
Trinidad built a 5-4 lead through six innings before the Fuego tied the game with a run in the eighth. The Triggers answered with three runs in the bottom half to take an 8-5 advantage, then withstood Santa Fe’s late push. Cody Strayer earned the win after allowing one run on one hit with two strikeouts in one inning, and David Gates recorded the save despite allowing two runs, none earned, on one hit. Santa Fe starter Tommy Giunta worked six innings and allowed 10 hits and five runs, four earned, with five walks and four strikeouts.
