Santa Fe Fuego Outslug Trinidad Triggers 18-15

July 26 2023 The Santa Fe Fuego defeated the Trinidad Triggers 18-15 in a high-scoring matchup at Central Park. Santa Fe totaled 18 hits and scored in six innings, while Trinidad collected nine hits and finished with 15 runs. Santa Fe took a 9-7 lead after a seven-run second inning and extended the advantage to 13-7 with four runs in the third.

Brian Cantu led the Fuego offense with four hits and seven RBI, including a home run. Arthur Quinones added three hits, five RBI and two home runs, while Tate Jernigan hit a home run and drove in two runs. Jared Fry contributed two RBI, and Alex Williams finished with three hits and two doubles.

Trinidad rallied with two runs in the fifth and five more in the sixth to move within 13-14. Santa Fe added two insurance runs in the ninth, and the Triggers answered with one in the bottom half but could not complete the comeback. DeMarcus Kelly and Adam Purdy each drove in three runs for Trinidad, while Quinterrious Arrington and David Arza added two RBI apiece.

Billy Nix earned the win for Santa Fe after allowing eight hits and nine runs seven earned in 4.2 innings. He walked eight and struck out four. Jordan Izzo followed with 2.2 innings of one-run relief and struck out six. Russell Cruz took the loss for Trinidad after surrendering nine runs on nine hits in two innings.
