July 23 2019 The Garden City Wind built an early lead and held on for a 12-7 victory over the Trinidad Triggers. Garden City scored three runs in the first inning and four more in the second to take a 7-0 advantage, then added two runs in the fourth and three in the fifth. The Wind finished with nine hits and two errors while Trinidad also collected nine hits and committed one error.
Cutter McDowell powered the Garden City offense with three hits in five at-bats, including two home runs, three runs scored and six RBI. Shane Brown added two hits, one home run, one run and four RBI, while Ryan Kemp doubled and drove in a run. Garden City also received doubles from Joel Garza and Brandon Kussmaul. Trinidads N. Shumpert homered and drove in three runs, and Abel Arocho had three hits.
Trinidad answered with one run in the third and erupted for six runs in the fifth, cutting the deficit to 10-7, but Garden City kept the Triggers scoreless over the final two innings. Pierce Smith earned the win after allowing one hit and four runs, three earned, in 1.1 innings with three strikeouts and two walks. Joel Garza worked three innings and struck out five while allowing one run, and Gabriel Estrada took the loss for Trinidad after giving up eight hits and nine runs, eight earned, in four innings.
